Hello again, UO Running Club
Graduation Day is tomorrow! Congratulations to all our seniors! Thanks for your attendance, all you’ve added to the Running Club by simply being there! Enjoy your summer and all that’s ahead!
Thank you to our lap counters and shoe checkers at the NCAA meet the last four days. Josh Seitz and the track staff appreciate your work.
We will not meet for runs in Eugene until next fall but I’ll send weekend emails throughout the summer.
If you plan to race in the fall, it’s fine to continue with recreational running until the first of July.
Sprinters, stay active. There are so many summertime activities…try some!
EUGENE STUFF TO DO?
As summer starts here in Eugene:…
— Run the Night of Miles on Thursday, July 2, at Hayward Field. It’s free! There will be MANY sections of the mile, seeded by your submitted time. ‘Starts at 5:30pm, slower sections first … and goes until it’s done! Register at:

— Run Butte-to-Butte, 10km or 5km, on July 4.
— Compete in the first OTC all-comers meet on Thursday, June 25. Season’s info here: https://www.oregontrackclub.com/summer-all-comers-meets
— Help officiate the long jump at the first kids’ all-comers meet on Wednesday, June 24.
HELP ME OFFICIATE THE 7-8-9 YEAR OLD’S LONG JUMP
I’ve been organizing the 7-8-9 year old’s long jump for over 40 years. Come and help me! It starts at 5:30pm on Wednesdays and it lasts about 90 minutes. First meet is June 24. No experience needed! Meets on June 24, July 1, July 8, July 15, July 22.
Contact me at heino@uoregon.edu or text 541-954-0263.
It’s fun! Avery will be in charge of the long jump at the first meet.
TRAINING … NOW WHAT?
Some of you have trained pretty hard this spring! We’ve had a lot of success but regardless of how it went for you, after the intensity of a racing season, the next step is rest.
For every high there needs to be a low. Rest and regeneration are part of the training cycle.
Now is a good time to do some easy running…or resting…before you eventually start a mileage buildup this summer for cross country or road races next fall.
If you keep running, do it because you like it, not because you have to. Run for fun, for recreation, because it feels good!
You can run recreationally another couple weeks, until the first of July, then start a buildup of mileage for the fall season. Beginning in August I’ll suggest specific workouts with some quality running. The volume of that running will increase through August and September to be ready to start our cross country season (if you choose to) when you arrive on campus.
Now, rest or have fun with running!
‘Summertime!
