UO Running Club

The UO Running Club brings students together to train, race, and build community, welcoming all levels from beginners to experienced runners. The Running Club meets throughout the school year across cross country, track, and road races, offering structured workouts, group runs, and opportunities to competitively race.

More about practice...
The team meets for practice Monday through Friday at 3pm, unless stated otherwise in the weekly newsletter.

We meet down by the benches next to the intramural field, right next to the Rec center and across from Hayward Stadium.

All distances and paces are welcome. Typically, runners will do 3-5 miles at whatever pace is easy for them. Some do more or less, depending on their individual training goals.

Come by, say hello, and join us for a run!
Races

Put yourself to the test while representing the UO Running club at one of our meets!

Looking to race?
Every year, our runners have the opportunity to race all over Oregon in Cross Country and Track.

Races are a great way to see tangible results from your training.

This website will post the club's race times under the "Results" section, and hopefully we'll update a few times in the "Records" section as well!
Workouts

Test your speed and endurance by participating in a workout on Hayward track!

More than just running!
Running club isn't just about running!

We're a community of people that happen to share an interest in the sport - but that's not all we do.

Look out for announcements about hikes, BBQs, Easter egg hunts, beach trips, and more!

Running is more fun when you're among friends!

Tom Heinonen

When Tom Heinonen became the Running Club's coach in 2003, he brought with him years of experience that provide an unmatched opportunity for Club runners. Tom began as a volunteer coach for the Club after 27 years (1975 to 2002) of head coaching responsibilities for the Oregon Ducks women's track and field and cross country programs. In his tenure, he led one of the most successful women's programs in the NCAA, bringing home two NCAA cross country championships, in 1983 and 1987, and qualifying for the national meet 24 times. He was NCAA Coach of the Year twice and was inducted into the USTFCCCA Hall of Fame in 2006.
