Running in Eugene first week of Summer session - 9:30am!

Monday, June 23 through Friday, June 27, we will meet at the waterfall in front of the rec center at 9:30am daily for steady runs. I'll ride my bike along too. We changed to 9:30am so that Club members with 11:00am classes can run with us. Kristen Mohror has a class and Dan Dickinson is teaching Math 105 at 11am.

The Trials "Super Block" will close off traffic on 15th, just down from the waterfall.

Summer training... read this!

If you plan to compete in our cross country season next fall, keep in mind that it's a long time until fall term starts and it's much longer until NIRCA Nationals in November.

There are 12 weeks until the first chance to race (September 12), 14 weeks until fall term starts and 20 weeks until NIRCA Nationals. If you had a stess fracture diagnosed today, you could have eight weeks of no running and still have twelve weeks of buildup for nationals!

You can be running recreationally now or just starting your volume buildup for the fall season. If you have been resting completely, now is a good time to start running again, but not everyday for at least a couple of weeks.

A good goal is to accumulate a slightly greater volume of running this summer than you've done before, if you were able to finish that previous summer uninjured and ready to go.

Really, you want to get some work done, and feel that you're well prepared for a fall season... ready to do hard days once or twice a week at the end of September, and a long run on the weekend.

If you count miles, try to stairstep your weeks, taking an easy "drop back" week at least once a month. Everything in athletic training is cyclic... work hard, then go easy and recover... do more, then do less, so that you're recovered and ready to do more again.
